Irish moss, peat moss and common polypody:
Three moor plants for well-filled moisture depots

Moor plant extract combines the various skin-friendly components of Irish moss, peat moss and the fern plant common polypody. The plants are rich in substances which effectively protect them against dehydration. This is a requirement in their habitat. For example, Irish moss is found in the Alps, but also in the Arctic regions, and survives the intense weather of these habitats only due to its reservoirs of polysaccharides. The stored carbohydrates adhere to the membranes of the plant cells, counteracting water loss as moisture buffers. Hyaline cells act as a water tank in peat moss, giving the plant its extraordinary abilities to store water. The plant can absorb 20 to 30 times its weight in water. Common polypody is also contained in the extract; it has an anabolic metabolism. Protein biosynthesis is activated, so that the fern leaves contain high amounts of amino acids. The acids are also found in human skin as natural moisture-preserving factors. Moor plant extract therefore offers a rich spectrum of hydrating substances. Urea supplies the skin with moisture and protects against callus

Urea is one of the most important substances among the skin's natural moisturising factors. It moisturises even into the deeper skin layers, while moor plant extract increases the water content especially in the upper parts of the callus layer, where the skin normally dries out very quickly. In the new GEHWOL med Express Care Foam, urea also supports another property of moor plant extract. The extract smooths and rehydrates dry, stressed feet.

Urea complements this effect with its callus softening effects. Urea also relieves pressure spots and helps to prevent callus.
